Waves Retreat 2015

We have just returned from the first annual WAVES Project Retreat at CoCo View Resort in Roatan, Honduras. Our group included two scuba instructors and 15 volunteers who all paid their own way to meet and combine vacation with HSA (Handicap Scuba Association) buddy training as well as WAVES Project goal setting and planning for the upcoming year. Instructors Steve Rubin and Ron Fonstad conducted in-water and classroom buddy training sessions to prepare the volunteers to help with the future classes of veterans with disabilities.

The resort setting was the perfect location to conduct this training because of the ease of entering the water from shore and the 30 to 40 foot depth of the “front yard” training area. CoCo View Resort was extremely gracious to allow us the use of meeting rooms for our out-of-water training and extended many more courtesies to our group.
